The 9 planet personality types

The quiz has nine possible results: the eight planets plus Pluto as a rare bonus. Each one is linked to a real fact about the planet.

Mercury: quick and restless

Mercury people move fast, start early and get bored waiting. Mercury is the fastest planet and circles the Sun in 88 Earth days. See it on the Mercury 3D map.

Venus: warm and intense

Venus people feel things strongly and bring energy to a room. Venus is the hottest planet, with a surface near 872°F (467°C), even though Mercury is closer to the Sun. See it on the Venus 3D map.

Earth: caring and balanced

Earth people look after others and keep things steady. Earth is the only place we know of that has living things. Explore the Earth 3D model.

Mars: bold and adventurous

Mars people say yes to new places and new challenges. Mars is the only planet where we have sent rovers, including Curiosity and Perseverance. See it on the Mars 3D map.

Jupiter: a big-hearted leader

Jupiter people are generous, loud in a good way and good at bringing a group together. Jupiter is the largest planet. About 1,000 Earths could fit inside it. Explore the Jupiter 3D model.

Saturn: calm and organized

Saturn people plan ahead and keep things tidy. Saturn’s rings are made of billions of chunks of ice and rock, spread out in neat bands. Explore the Saturn 3D model.

Uranus: unconventional

Uranus people do things their own way. Uranus is tilted about 98 degrees, so it spins on its side. Explore the Uranus 3D model.

Neptune: dreamy and deep

Neptune people are quiet on the outside and full of ideas inside. Neptune is the farthest planet from the Sun and has the fastest winds of any planet, over 1,200 mph. Explore the Neptune 3D model.

Pluto: the independent underdog

The rarest result in this quiz is Pluto. Pluto people are independent, loyal to a small circle and happy to stand apart. Pluto has been a dwarf planet since 2006 and has five known moons. Read more in questions about Pluto.

How the quiz picks your planet

The quiz gives each answer points for one to three planets. At the end it adds up the points and shows your top four planets as percentages. The percentage is your share of the points, not a measured match.

The planet with the most points is your result. If two planets tie, the quiz uses a fixed order to break the tie. Pluto only appears when your answers lean independent and quiet.

For example, choosing a hike in one question and a volcano trip in another adds points to Mars. Choosing a to-do list, a set schedule and a neat snack plate adds points to Saturn.

The quiz is for fun. It does not measure personality the way a psychology test does, but every planet fact it uses comes from NASA.

After your result, you can see all nine planets, compare your percentages and share your planet with friends. Teachers can use the quiz as a warm-up before a lesson on the solar system. Students learn one real fact about each planet while they play.

Which planet would you want to live on?

The best planet to live on is Earth. No other planet has an ocean, air that people can breathe and a mild temperature. Here is what the others are like:

  • Mercury: daytime highs of 800°F and nighttime lows of -290°F.
  • Venus: a surface near 872°F and air pressure 93 times higher than on Earth.
  • Mars: a day of 24.6 hours, close to Earth’s 23.9, but temperatures from about 70°F down to -225°F.
  • Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune: no hard surface to stand on.
  • Pluto: an average temperature of -387°F.

FAQ

Is this astrology?

No. The quiz does not use birth dates or zodiac signs. It matches your answers to real facts about each planet, such as how fast it orbits or how big it is.

Which planet is the rarest result?

Pluto is the rarest result. It is a dwarf planet, so it works as a bonus ninth result, and it only shows up when your answers point to independent, quiet choices.

What planet is most like Earth?

Venus is closest to Earth in size, at 7,521 miles wide compared with Earth's 7,926. Mars is closest in day length, at 24.6 hours compared with 23.9. Neither planet has conditions like Earth's.

Can I retake the quiz?

Yes. You can retake it as many times as you like. Change your answers and you may get a different planet.

How many planets are there?

There are eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto has been a dwarf planet since 2006, which is why it is the bonus result here.
