The Hunter’s Moon, October’s full moon, turns full at 04:12 UTC on October 26. That is 9:12 p.m. Pacific time and 12:12 a.m. Eastern time, so the Moon already looks full tonight. The name marks its place in the calendar: it is the first full moon after the Harvest Moon.
The Moon needs 15.5 days to go from new on October 10 to full on October 26. A full moon rises as the Sun sets because the two sit on opposite sides of Earth. In autumn the Moon’s path makes its rising time shift by much less each night than the usual average of about 50 minutes, so a bright moonrise at dusk repeats for several evenings. Today’s Moon phase and the countdown to the next full moon are on our live tracker, and the full moon calendar lists every date.
