The constellation Monoceros (the Unicorn) is so faint that many stargazers overlook it entirely. It was first recorded in the 17th century by Dutch astronomer Petrus Plancius, who likely added it to fill an empty space on his star map. Despite its obscurity, Monoceros contains fascinating deep-sky objects, including the Rosette Nebula and a rare type of multiple-star system.
