Saturn is the second biggest planet in the Solar system. It is so big that you could fit more than 700 Earth-sized planets into it.

You probably know that the greater the mass a planet – or any object – has, the stronger its gravity will be. As a result, if you were to stand on a planet with a higher gravity, you would weigh more.

So, that begs the question, how much would you weigh on Saturn?

Before we get to that answer, let’s clear something up.

It is not possible for a human to walk on Saturn because the planet is made out of gas. It does not have a solid surface to stand on. If you were to “fall” into Saturn or any of the other gas giants, you would sink into the core of the planet and there would be nothing to stop you. Well, actually, you would be frozen, crushed, and torn apart long before that by the low temperatures, high pressure, and supersonic winds but let’s say that you had a way to survive that part.

So, for the purpose of this exercise, and to calculate how much would you weigh on the planet, we will have to picture an imaginary planet with the same mass as Saturn but with a solid surface. With that clarification made, let’s proceed.

After all that, you will be surprised to hear that on Saturn, you would weigh just 7% more than your current weight on Earth. This is because, despite its large mass, Saturn has a very low density which lowers its gravity. As a matter of fact, it is the least dense planet in the Solar system.

As a result, a person who weighs 70 kilograms (154 lbs) on Earth would weigh approximately 74.5 kilograms (164.25 lbs) on Saturn.

On top of that, in order to walk on this imaginary planet with the mass of Saturn, you would have to add up the weight of the spacesuit required to survive.

To give you an idea of how heavy astronaut suits are, the spacesuits that the Apollo astronauts used to walk on the Moon weighed about 163 kilograms (360 pounds) on Earth. On the Moon that weight was reduced to just 27 kilograms (60 pounds) which is still a lot, but it is manageable. However, on Saturn, this equipment would be heavier rather than lighter.
