Earth’s northern lights are beautiful, but Jupiter’s auroras are deadly. Powered by Jupiter’s insane magnetic field—the strongest of any planet—these auroras are hundreds of times brighter than Earth’s and emit powerful X-rays. If a human stood near them, the radiation would be lethal in seconds. Even Jupiter’s moon Io gets caught in the chaos, as its volcanoes spew charged particles that fuel the planet’s auroras.
