HD 189733 b might be the most violent place in the galaxy. This gas giant exoplanet has winds howling at 8,700 km/h (5,400 mph)—seven times the speed of sound. And if that’s not bad enough, its atmosphere is full of silicate particles, meaning it rains molten glass. But because of those extreme winds, the glass shards don’t fall down—they fly sideways at hypersonic speeds.
