The Parker Solar Probe, launched in 2018, is the fastest human-made object in history. As it swings past the Sun, it reaches speeds of about 700,000 km/h (435,000 mph). That’s fast enough to travel from New York to Los Angeles in less than 20 seconds. Over time, it will keep accelerating, getting closer to the Sun to study its outer layers.
