Not every planet orbits a star. There are rogue planets—worlds that were flung out of their solar systems and now drift through space alone. Some of these planets may still have thick atmospheres that trap heat, keeping them warm even without a Sun. Scientists think there could be billions of these lonely wanderers in our galaxy, hidden in the dark between the stars.
