Sunlight takes just 8 minutes to reach Earth, but to get to Neptune, the Sun’s rays need over 4 hours to travel across 4.5 billion km (2.8 billion miles) of space. That means if the Sun suddenly disappeared, Neptune wouldn’t even notice for a quarter of a day.
