Because of Mercury’s slow rotation and fast orbit around the Sun, the Sun appears to do something bizarre in its sky. If you were standing in the right place, you’d see the Sun rise, stop, move backward slightly, then continue rising again. This happens because of the way Mercury’s rotation and orbit interact, making for one of the strangest sunrises in the solar system.
